FINANCING SUSTAINABILITY: RESOURCES AND INVESTMENTS
Wednesday May 20 from 8:00 to 9:00 am. Mark Your Calendar
Hosted by Cara Pratt, Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Racine
While we can certainly applaud private sector trends towards divesting from fossil fuels, we must also ask ourselves: is there a subsequent equal and intentional investment in conservation?
Conservation finance is “a mechanism through which a financial investment into an ecosystem is made – directly or indirectly through an intermediary that aims to conserve the values of the ecosystem for the long term”(Credit Suisse, 2014).
There are a number of financial mechanisms that fit this definition: payments for ecosystem services, permit trading and offsets, and private investment through public climate funds. Conservation finance requires that projects produce long-term cash flows to support the conservation strategy as well as a return to investors.
This Quarter's RSBN meeting will focus on local business options to support conservation finance, including funding mechanisms for business's conservation projects.
